Every creative knows the feeling: staring at a blank page, iPad, or canvas with no spark in sight. For me, those funks used to last days, sometimes weeks, until I found Skillshare.
Skillshare has become one of my favorite tools for reigniting creativity. It’s not just about learning new skills (though it’s amazing for that too) it’s about feeling inspired by a whole community of artists, designers, and makers who openly share their process, tips, and tricks.
Learning from Other Creatives
The magic of Skillshare is that the classes are taught by people who are actively doing the work. People like illustrators, designers, animators, entrepreneurs so you’re not just learning theory, you’re learning what actually works. I’ve picked up small tricks in classes that completely changed my workflow, and I’ve learned entire new skills that expanded the kind of projects I take on.
Sparking New Ideas
Whenever I feel stuck in a creative rut, I’ll take a Skillshare class on something totally new to me. Animation, surface pattern design, productivity hacks—each one has unlocked new ways of thinking. Sometimes it’s the tiniest idea that gets me sketching again. Animation wasn't even something I thought I'd like, but taking a quick class taught me I was very wrong.
Classes have even helped me on the admin side of my business. There are amazing teachers out there telling you how they organize their artwork files, how they keep track of licenses and how to do things like cold outreach.
From Class Project to Licensed Product
Here’s the wildest part: one of my class projects actually turned into a licensed product with a real company: Trader Joes! I never imagined that following along with a Skillshare course could lead to seeing my work out in the world—but it did. That’s the kind of potential this platform has when you lean into it.
I took Jess Miller Draws class named Hand Lettering for Illustrators: Creating Greeting Cards in Procreate and created a fun Valentine's Day card inspired by red hots candies. Not long after I posted about it on Instagram, I had a request to license it by none other than Trader Joes (a dream!). This was not on my radar since I just created this in a moment of creative block and wanting to have fun without forcing anything.
Try It for Free
The best part? You can try it out risk-free. I’m giving you one free month of Skillshare. Eeee, it's true -- you can spend this cozy season discovering something new! Dive into a class, finish a project, and see where it takes you—you never know what doors it might open.
I hope you love it as much as I do!
